When the Guv is in town it's time to move out, with an unbeaten Pro K1 record Joe Magovan of SDF Gym Sheffield is not someone to take lightly. Richard Brass made the long journey from London to try and fell the Sheffield warrior who within tradition to Sheffield looks like he most probably is made of STEEL.

With an aura of some kind of a young Dolf Lungdren this young man is destined to go far!

Janson-Piers said "It has taken a while for the switch to drop with Joe as I have seen him grow in maturity and skill over the last two years , but let me tell you....It was well worth the wait!!! This is one fighter WAKO Pro will be helping to climb to the top!!"

Stopping a skilful and game Brass in the first round with a knee that could be heard in Rotherham, the Guv took it all in his stride and very respectfully.

K1 Champion of the highest standard! Kerry-Louise

This is a quick press release until the full story and pics are available by the end of the week when hopefully they will appear in the Newspapers?

Kerrry-Louise steams ahead in the WAKO K1 Intercontinental title fight held in Dinnington Sheffield this weekend gone! Full credit firstly goes to her opponent, a respectful and friendly girl in Natalie Van Niekerk who travelled all the way from South Africa to meet one of Great Britains top professional and hard hitting fighters. Van Niekerk, showed that when she entered the ropes she too had a different personality for the ring. She was focused and had COME TO FIGHT!

Led out by her own long time student Chris Blood who has just returned from a 2nd Afghanistan tour and received his Afghan medal last week, Kerry-Louise looked calm, collected and had that look of sheer confidence as she stood in a silhouette of flashing lights and smoke, the show was set......

In a fight which went the distance with the addition of bone bruising low kicks and knees, including all the boxing and kicking skills, both girls showed they were both mentally and physically prepared for the bout.

Kerry-Louise started as expected with a 30 second appraisal of her fighter to let coach “CJP” see how to handle the South African. With that out of the way Kerry-Louise moved it up into second gear to take the first round comfortably and with her opponents weaknesses now been assessed fully.

The second round went into 3^rd gear with two levels left and again the home fighter was well in front at the bell.

It was plain to see that round 3 of the scheduled 5 x 3minutes was where Cris had planned for Kerry-Louise to move up to 5^th and top gear. She came out and for the 3 rounds which remained and treated the whole Lyric Theatre to a display of sheer excellence.

Combination punches that would have stopped most fighters, kicks that would have downed a bull, straight singular shots which heard the audience oooooh-ing and ahhhh-ing with each bomb being unloaded.

Natalie rode the bombard of attacks and countered often with some good strong singular technique herself. But even with Natalies best it was plain to see that Natalie at nearly 6 foot tall and Kerry-Louise at only 5’5” that Kerry-Louise was built so strongly in both leg, shoulder and arm areas and as she moved in close this was where she was at the most dangerous.

Kerry-Louise then turned up the pace again! Catching kicks, dummying and kicking through hard and low which saw Natalie taken to the canvas on several occasions. As the final round was called Kerry-Louise was sitting on a 4 round straight win and adding the 5^thwould give her a straight set and match!

Round 5 was perfection and Kerry-Louise just showed that the extensive fitness, stamina and bag/pad training, plus all the hours of ring sparring had paid off. Again Van Niekerk saw the canvas with a massive scoop and leg take down as the fight neared the end, the final 30 seconds was shouted from Kerry-Louises corner and she tucked up and went for gold.

The final bell rung and Natalie knew that as hard as she had fought and as much as she had defied the British fighter of putting her down and keeping her down that the victory and beautiful solid Brass and leather title belt was going to be placed around Kerry-Louises waist! It was and Natalie showed her professionalism and true sportsmanship again by placing the belt around her opponent.

Tears of jubilation from Kerry-Louise and both her Mum, Dad, Brother, Grandad and Aunties showed how tense the fight had been for all of them, but it was now over and just leaving long time coach and partner Master Cris Janson-Piers as one of the UK’s top trainers, managers, coaches and promoters to now enter into talks to secure the World Crown in 2011 hopefully?

Both Cris and Kerry-Louise would like to thank all her training partners and close friend Shane Beard for his time along with other coaches who they have a great relationship with and work in unison with, namely Mr Richard Smith of Bad Co, Paul Powers SDF and Internationally with Arnaud Mimouni France and their very dear friends in Ton and Robin Vriend in Holland where the two visit as much as they can every year!

Kerry-Louise also has a thai Background and now trains with Kru Leif Taggart and is presently a purple Khan. Major influences here are all the staff at S.Vorapin Gym Thailand and also Channoy of Thailand who needs no introduction, Kerry-Louise was personally and highly praised by this major name and champion within his sport as he trained her privately on several occasions this year.

One main character who has influenced both Kerry-Louise and Cris himself, who has tirelessly worked with Kerry-Louise on the pads and sparred with her in the ring is K1 Multi World Champion Ernesto Hoost! So from “Mr Perfect” as Hoost is called….”Miss Perfect” has hailed, thank you sir! Respect to you!!

Full story and pics to be released real soon and very shortly a show real of the lady herself with footage that people have never seen whilst she has always been hid away in her climb to the ultimate goal. Kerry has won a World title in every style she has ever trained in and left the full contact scene as WAKO Pro World Champion also. Although the WAKO World title looks very interesting the mere fact that Intercontinental means anyone from any of the continents in ANY part of the World means Kerry-Louise had put herself on offer to anyone anyway, leaving the word “World” as a mere statement but another opening for her to have another fantastic title fight in 2011, which will again be local so all her supporters can go and watch.

WAKO Pro fighter Kerry-Louise becomes Rotherham Ambassador

Well known WAKO Pro GB fighter Kerry-Louise receives her award off the Madam Mayor of Rotherham, which included a certificate off the council, a beautiful personalised certificate off Madam Mayor herself and the "Rotherham Ambassador" badge which are few and far between. What a proud day.

The award was in recognition of Kerry-Louise's success on the World Kickboxing and K1 Kickboxing Stage and her continued work within the sport itself which also involves children of the local communities.

This presentation was also attended by close friends, training partners and family.

K1 Judges and Referees ADVANCED Course

On the 23rd November 2010 Master Cris Janson-Piers, in line with the continuing and evolving standards of WAKO Pro GB administered a K1 Judges and referees course for its A and B class judges and Referees.

The course was very in depth and covered every area of how to judge K1 fights to give the fairest representation of score. Refereeing and correct procedure was also extensively covered.

The course finalised with an AV presentation and the examination of Judges and their scorecards.

A great evening with all participants being successful and this further demonstrated why WAKO Pro continue to produce such consistent results!

Grimsby Martial Arts Academys event, outstanding success sanctioned by WAKO.

Andy Allenby and Mick Blythin of Grimsby Martial Arts promoted a fantastic evening of Kickboxing and K1 at the Beachcomber Club at Grimsby on Sunday 14th November 2010.

WAKO Pro GB were involved in helping these two professionals bring top flight entertainment to the Town. The event run so smoothly, mainly due to Mick and Andy working hand in glove with CJP and the strict but fair procedures of WAKO.

Not only did the locals have chance to see how they faired in the ring but Marco Mastrorocco (WAKO Italia) and Alexis Bolsunovs (WAKO Latvia) brought several of their students to see how they faired, so even though most of the fighters were novices it meant the show had an International feel to it with both coaches being champions for their country in the past!

Jordan Waring and Leif Taggart also had chance to show off their skills after returning from their successful trip to Holland where they fought K1. This was only after they had spent the evening judging and Jordan taking up one of his new trained skills in kickcounting for WAKO.

WAKO opens up a whole new World of competition for fighters and coaches alike and qualifications for officials under the World Governing Body of the highest standards.

There are already talks about where GMAA are going next with shows and what they can bring to the coast. The K1 system was fought and demonstrated on the night along with kickboxing, with K1 being a newer style of the two and the public being less familiar with it. However Grimsby is no stranger to boxing fight nights and these seem to stay very strong. GMAA promote their own boxing events which can attract over 600 people at each show!

The ELITE Training at Falcon Fight Academy

For the past few years Elite fighter and very successful champion Marco Mastrorocco of Italy and Master Cris Janson-Piers the president of WAKO Pro GB and the National coach and Executive Director to Great Britain for WAKO GB have been communicating by email ever since Marco came to the UK. Marco expressed from an early date that he would like to work alongside Cris and develop a close sporting and working relationship, with the possibility of passing on the wealth of the knowledge they both had to each other and to each others students. Marco has developed his own club here in the UK namely Epic Gym West London and indeed has his own fighters almost ready to go out onto the scene and is just putting the finishing touches to them. A few years on, Saturday 18^th September 2010 saw these two greats come together in Sheffield at the WAKO Pro GB training headquarters.

Marco had made the long journey to Sheffield from London with his own student Luca Caputo who was to help Marco with his demonstrations. Present on the day were a small, but very experienced class of Cris’ students, ranging from British to World Champions. Cris had selected these people carefully knowing that their experience would allow the group to work well together and at a good advanced pace. This was a key element in making the seminar flow and maximized the absorption rate of technique for all.

With Marco being a multiple Italian Thai and Full Contact champion and an incredible WAKO Rules K1 exponent (Who was coached byRoberto Fragale), it was natural that Master Cris was going to select the newest format of K1 rules as the base of the seminar. Marco has a great reputation not only as being a top class fighter but an extremely good coach, who demands nothing but the best off all he teaches.

Why have WAKO K1 Rules become so popular over the last few years then? Apart from the obvious that they are very very entertaining and the sport requires and elevated amount of fitness and stamina.

Over the last few years we have seen a massive spectator and participant increase in the ever growing UFC and MMA scene. When it first started it appeared to be mainly a ground game with the influences of such as Brazilian Ju Jitsu etc playing a main part in it. Once the fight went to the floor there could be a long wait as the fighters may be left locked on the floor right up until the end of the round. But over time and as things grew and progressed, fighters were made to stand up if the fight became inactive which then threw a greater emphasis on the requirement of a good stand up game also.

Many top gyms took on “groundwork” coaches and “stand up” coaches and this is exactly what happened at Cris’ own gym. Although he also fought in Kick Jutsu all his life and fought on the combined services judo squad whilst serving in Her Majesties Forces his real love became Full Contact kickboxing before he moved onto the K1 format. He therefore remained with the stand up and passed the groundwork, MMA onto his Chief Instructor at his gym.

So WAKO K1 rules or K1 Rules became attractive and widely followed for two reasons. One was it being a fantastic combat sport in its own right with so much variation and the other as it was seen as the ultimate in stand up requirements for the MMA scene.

The seminar started as per normal with a thorough warm up and then the students were straight into hands on practical application. No focus mitts or Thai pads etc were used during this seminar, everything was demonstrated and practiced practically to each other which gave every technique a great feeling of realism and a better understanding of not only how to do it but it gave a better perspective of body positioning and defensive or countering lines.

Both Marco and Luca were on hand to advise and correct what seemed sometimes to be minor points but again were all very important. Marco’s English was superb and it made it very interesting to see how another country portrayed K1 rules and their slant on the game. The students were all engrossed in the seminar and were taking on all the information they were being given.

What was noticeable was that Marco had obviously developed his power from his Thai fighting style but then used his Full Contact to allow his movements to become more fluent. I personally have trained and become a champion in Points, Light and Full Contact, moved on to Thai boxing of which I have still yet to compete in and I believe that all these have benefited my K1 rules fighting in one way or another. As I am always told…..K1 is a format not a style so adapt it to suit yourself as long as you fight within the rules set out on the day.

Every technique was constantly grilled but in a practical moving fashion and not a stationary robotic way which some people seem to get drawn into. As with every seminar it is not always about coming out of them and expecting things to be very different but it’s the smallest points which can be invaluable. Many times have I come away from a seminar and taken away maybe 3 or 4 pieces of new information. It maybe that some things are just explained differently, or that it shines a new light on how you perceive or understand a technique?

As with all K1 Rules work, the seminars are never long enough even though Marco gave an intense 3 hour account of the system. As an instructor I break my classes down into many different areas from boxing skills, to footwork, ringcraft, clinch work, knee application, checking skills, blocking and evading skills and obviously application and sparring. What I did think is that Marco had planned the seminar out extremely well and had tried to involve an equal amount of each area into the session. This kept it flowing and very exciting for all.

To finish there was a sparring and assessment session where Marco studied the fighters in the ring and watched them closely passing on comments to fighter and coach alike. Again it was very good to have an outsiders opinion on how we were doing as fighters. Just like learning that small, invaluable point on a seminar, having a weak area highlighted by an independent could lead to further improvement or even serve to keep you away from making a fatal error in combat!

After a great seminar Marco and Luca returned to our home for a meal before the long journey home and where we further discussed some personal things and also a little more on how we could all work at moving the sport on further. A great friendship was forged on that day and it looks as though it will continue to be long and successful.

Marco asked for the opportunity to comment, I have left this statement as written in his own words for maximum effect:

On a sunny Saturday morning I embark myself and my new student Luca Caputo (raised by the famous Master Franza, Torino – Italy), in a trip to North England to teach a seminar on K1 rules and meet one of the most charismatic member of the WAKO family ever met: Mr Cris Janson Piers.

Not only Mr Piers is one of the most renown people in the English Kickboxing environment, he is also (and not for a lucky chance) the President of WAKO PRO GB, Coach and coordinator of all the national combat squads for ring sports.

After he picks us up at the local train station in Retford (Nottinghamshire), we head to his HQ, stopping by his house to collect an apparently harmless couple of guys (What a surprise when I saw them in the ring…) : Kerry and Leif.

Luca and I enjoy the view as we chat with Mr Piers along the way, in the middle of the country side (very relaxing).

The more I get to know this man, the more I like him: He jokes relaxed and makes us feel comfortable, with an impressive inner positive energy, which is all displayed describing with passion his results as Coach, his guys’ battles in the ring and all the achievements they reached!

And he also gets very serious when we discuss about the International Championships, where – for reasons we will discuss later – sometimes it is impossible to gather a full team of English fighters.

We get to the gym, not a big one, but you can “smell” the warrior spirit in it, the dedication of this guys who travel miles everyday to come and take advantage of upper class tuitions!

I was expecting few more students for the seminar, but hey… I am not Andy Sower… (A car from London – Essex – was halted in the highway for an accident and had to go back) So out of the 12 students who had been carefully selected I am happy to see 8 willing people in front of me.

Mr Piers leaves me control of the room, where I start my warm up… we are ready to go.

I have to say that these guys were very respectful and all ears and eyes: Not a single word during the seminar… just the work!

Again: I can see Mr Cris’ touch of discipline here! Such is the silence that I almost feel embarrassed!

The room is a bit chilly at the beginning… but after a warm up we are all ready to start!

We go through the basics and start to put them in practice in a dynamic environment, focusing a lot on going “in and out” the striking distance.

I try to work things in order to give them my vision of the game, taking the opportunity to explain how, in international competitions (we will touch other issues on this point later) we must work in a certain way to avoid being “over paced” by East European fighters, who work like machines with short combos at an incredible rate and frequency!

We look at evasion techniques on low kicks, boxing, pure defence and counter attacks, highlighting the importance of keeping control of body balance and how to shift it one way to another thanks to the appropriate footwork.

I am so pleased by the way all these guys follow my instructions and advice that I feel seriously rewarded…

Everyone was displaying a very good level of kickboxing, and although 3 of them - Kerry, Leif and Jordan (I do not remember surnames) – are mature fighters just back from a training trip abroad (Mr Piers keeps his methodology up to date travelling all over the world with his best students to the best training places). Last time it was at a very select secret venue, but believe me a very impressive one!!!!

They tried and practiced without even showing a blink of “ I already know this…”

They were instead ready to listen and accept my corrections whenever something was not good enough! I feel even more responsible to deliver a good lesson now.

All these guys apply things in the ring for real, so if by the end of the seminar I can give them even one single new idea/technique to work with and put in practice in a match, my mission is accomplished!

Almost 3 hours go very quickly!

At the end of the seminar Mr Piers asks me to evaluate his fighters during a quick sparring session with my student Luca.

Everyone does his bit of sparring with him…

It is an impressive display of techniques and moves: these guys are seriously prepared… but hey, no surprise given their Master and all the titles they won!

They are all great, but a special mention goes to Jordan! This kid is not even 18 and has got motor skills, accuracy and reactions of a veteran! I wonder where this kid will be when he is 25!!!

Also two beginner students of Mr Piers (Artur and Robert, just 8 months into training) make their good display, showing more than the skills you would expect to be acquired in such a short time!!... Even Mr Piers seems to be pleased by their excellent performance!

To be honest, after all I read about Mr Piers, I didn’t expect any less!

I can only congratulate him for the great job done so far!

After the seminar we go to his home, where Kerry shows us her skills in the kitchen too… a very resourceful woman!

As the lunch gets on its way, we sit relaxed in the living room, where Mr Piers illustrates the kickboxing situation in the country.

WAKO is probably the most important Federation when it comes to ring sports and amateur tournaments!

But also its Pro Titles are very sought after!

I have been part of it for years!

… I can see Mr Piers as a very proud member of the WAKO family!

Although a veil of sadness comes down when we speak about the GB Squad!

He would like to have the tools to create a team of fighters for the International Competitions in WAKO, but the way it is now, his hands are tied!

It is renown how high the level of skills and fighters is in these WAKO games!

I have tried myself in first place! You face the most brilliant fighters around… people they have nothing to envy to pro title holders… and many of them are that too! I remember my Master – Mr Fragale- telling me that a winner of any WAKO International Tournament is seriously the best… more than many Belt holders!

East Europeans, for instance, are all very experienced fighters, with huge number of matches from Boxing and Kickboxing… they are professionals, even when they are not formally called so! Not a case they rule most of the tournaments!

I remember people of the level of Shakuta or Magomedov, taking part at WAKO European or World Championships!

So to have a chance with such competitors you must gather the best of the best in the country!

This means to call up the best Class A, Now, in country like UK (but Italy too) that means that majority, if not all, of them are already Pro.

They fight for good money and it is unluckily to see them wearing the helmets and shin guards again… for free!

This is the first problem to face!

Second issue is that WAKO doesn’t help economically the National Teams during these games.

In UK, as opposed to Italy, the National Amateur Federation doesn’t rely on big fees to be paid by the clubs to raise the money for international meetings;

To be WAKO member in UK or a coach it is not an expensive fee.

Bottom line is that each member of the national squad must provide for himself tickets and expenses during the stay abroad!

It is normal that pro fighters, used to get paid for stepping in the ring, do not have interest in such mission, where not only you go toe to toe with dangerous opponents, you must also to pay for that!

Although representing your own country should be motivational enough, yet… having to face such big expenses would put off almost everyone!

Many good fighters can’t afford that!

Hence the reason for which GB National Team is lacking of consistency in WAKO international events, but not when it comes all expense pro title event!

I would like to ask him what his solution to the problem would be: if increasing and how the Amateur Federation revenues, or what other plan he would put in place to sort things out… but lunch is ready and we are starving…

I promise myself to ask him this question on our way back to the Station…

As I eat with Luca I reflect on why I often see WAKO events held here (amateurs and pro), but rarely I hear of achievements in WAKO International Championships… what a shame for such a strong Country, with big talents like the ones I saw today!

As we head back to the station, Mr Piers and I talk about private issues such as family, life in the country side and the great day spent together… unfortunately I forget to ask him the question regarding the WAKO issue!

It has been a very positive experience for me and hopefully only the beginning for a fruitful cooperation!

In answer to Marcos question: “I believe first a foremost that it is essential that the fighters receive at least some funding to aid their travel, time off work and away from family. My own personal fighters have used the WAKO sponsorship letter I personally produce to raise enough money to pay for the whole trip and this has worked every time. However it is hard when we, as a squad find out some countries are not only paid to go to International competition but all their training up to the championships is paid for also.

Countries such as Norway have a very strict trailing process and also a strict way that kickboxers progress within the country with a bronze , silver and gold glove system before they can compete at a higher level and all gradings and progress is governed by one body so standards cannot be lowered or watered down.

Next year and towards the end of this year, I intend to put a whole new system into place, maybe also set on a team manager to work alongside myself and have a fresh look at how to introduce new blood to the squad. I know that if, like the other countries we could convince our best pro fighters to attend the WAKO championships, just like some of the Pro Thai fighters of Thailand and kickboxers from all over the World who have hundreds of fights and who still entered the World Games in Beijing this year and then reaping the benefits by winning the very first Olympic type Martial Arts Games, we could do the same!

The WAKO International competition is not an Amateur competition , it is an open format where the best of the World are invited, it is the rules that state what protection should be worn and unfortunately seasoned pros sometimes also do not like the wearing of headguards, maybe feeling they will then be represented as a pro fighting amateur then returning to Pro kickboxing on their return home, or the fact that they have to fight in a tournament situation, another reason some see as a barrier when considering competing.

Trials are starting very soon for the 2011 games and I personally welcome any top level fighters from the age of 15 years upwards to come and trial for both the cadet and adult teams in Full Contact, Low Kick and WAKO K1 Rules. On stating the above it should also be said that the British fighters who have competed within WAKO Pro at European, Intercontinental and World level have done us proud and some have beaten some very good champions to put us in the number one spot in the World rankings and become the proud owners of the coveted and much sort after WAKO Pro title belt. With one more International Pro challenge left this year and some already arranged for next year hopefully GB can prove its worth yet again.

On a last and personal note I also have offered in the past to become part of the World Ringsports committee as I can offer a whole wealth of experience in this area and help towards the fair treatment of all athletes. I have also submitted work and studies on the newly introduced WAKO K1 rules and a fully documented and illustrated work on the rights and wrongs of the judging/refereeing system in the K1 format. ”

Back to the day in hand……….A great partnership has been formed!Marco will also provide Cris and WAKO GB with the added benefit that he is a WAKO International Judge and referee which means whilst living in the UK he can provide an independent International service for Cris when required as Cris regularly promotes WAKO European, Intercontinental or World title fights himself. It will also not be too long before Marco’s own fighters are seen in competition within the UK so watch this space and beware!!

Cris has been invited down to London now as a return visit where he will deliver a seminar to Marco’s students at his top inner city gymnasium facility.

Dean Petty Spartans Gym is the new WAKO Amateur Northern Area Title winner after beating Colin Weighill of NEKA over 5 rounds on points (There was just 1 point separating the two fighters showing perfect fight matching!) at the Lamplight Arts Centre, Stanley, County Durham WAKO Pro show promoted by Wez Fagan. 17th July 2010.

Wez Fagan WAKO Pro World Title Challenge

The Lamplight Arts Theatre at Stanley, County Durham hosted a night of professional kickboxing where promoter and fighter Wesley Fagan of NEKA introduced WAKO, the World governing body for kickboxing to the North East. The spectators in this sold out venue were to be treated to a show featuring local talent of all ages.

NEKA, North East Kickboxing Academy was only formed 18 months ago and has since grown in size and has already started producing fighters of a very good standard. Wesley Fagan took on the huge task of not only promoting the show but also fighting on it which made the demand on him even bigger, but with the help of family, friends and the club members they managed to feature a show which equalled if not bettered one of many an experienced promoter.

Wesley showed his skills and power early in the first round catching Andrea with solid hand and foot combinations even whilst planning and pacing the fight. Both fighters came out for round 2 after taking on board info from their corners where they noticeably now had different strategies, a stronger start from Andrea as he corner realised he had lost the first round. Half way through an excellent 2^nd, with Fagan in front again on the scorecards, Colantoni threw a spinning crescent kick which hit Fagan and both fighters dropped to the floor in an untidy mess. The shot had unfortunately caught Wez on the chin and he was looked at by the very experienced referee in Philip Dews who deemed it unsafe for Fagan to continue.

Fagan showed heart in saying “Let me carry on” but safety and common sense had to prevail. The Italians immediately offered a rematch as they believed the fight wasn’t a true representation of either fighter and the amount of work they had both put into it. It was a crying shame, both teams knew this was going to be a fight of quality and it had simply been cut short.

The story will continue and the rematch date will be released as soon as possible.

NIKKI WILLIAMS v ALEX EVANS

(Total Dojo) (Falcon Fight Academy)

A nice fight by two really skilled young ladies, After being quickly corrected for level of contact Evans settled down to good combination work. Williams being a good low leg kick and full contact ringsport fighter could have stepped it up in reply but remained professional in her approach. Nikki did come back strong in the latter round which overall produced a really nice entertaining opening bout with Alex Evans taking the result by way of a unanimous points decision.

GABRIEL MALEY V LEE MORGAN

(Birmingham) (Falcon Fight Academy)

A tough first fight back for Lee Morgan under the management and coaching of CJP, but as with all Cris’ matching he likes his fighters to be tested. Gabriel Maley always looked like he had a punch which if connected would cause big damage so Morgans fight structuring was changed to suit. It was the perfect recipe and it swayed two of the judges in a close but majority decision in favour or Morgan.

A truly amazing fight, which definitely could have gone either way as was their last meeting. Both fighters had a clear game plan and it made it hard for any of them to settle into a clear pattern. It was going to be a game of skill and surprise. Fahey seemed to get more leg kicks in where Waring was hitting with some good hand combinations. Fahey liked holding Waring in the clinch, but he had been drilled on how to get the knees to score in the clinch in preparation for this. In what was seen as a too close to call fight Waring edged it this time and won the WAKO Amateur K1 Rules title on a majority points decision.

ALFIE DAVIES v NATHAN HOWE

(Enfield Kickboxing) (Falcon Fight Academy)

On Nathans 18^th Birthday he was to step out for the first time as a Falcon Fighter against Alfie Davies who is making himself a name in the sport at just the right age. Both guys had power, but Davies just seemed to be sharper and there first. Howe did come back in the last round but Davies had already proven he was winning material by taking the first two rounds.

MATHIAS BACKSTROM V JAMES RUSSELL

(Sweden) (Total dojo GB)

James Russell came out of the trap with all guns blazing and continued for the whole round, Backstrom was strong throughout. The Swedish coach said after that he didn’t believe the British fighter could put another 3 minutesin at that pace and was to shocked to see he did. Backstrom was always knocking at the door but just didn’t knock loud enough with Russell getting the vote off all 3 judges.

AMIL LAFIH V LEIF TAGGART

(SWEDEN) (Falcon Fight Academy GB)

Taggart lived up to every expectation and more. Although the Swede was prepared to stand and trade and not back off, Taggarts ringcraft and movement were unmatchable and untouchable! After Lafih had just come off a creditable win by beating one of Swedens top fighters he just didn’t have enough to take the crown out of the talons of Falcons new International superstar “Lethal Leif Taggart”. Top names there on the night, Phil Glover, Paul Powers and Waine Turner to name a few made some great comments and fighter and coach alike were humbled. Taggart was always looking for the unanimous decision which he was rightly awarded.

3X3 Semi-Pro International WAKO K1 rules – 81kg

DAVID STAHL V GALORE BOFANDO

(Sweden) (Lion’s den GB)

A battle and a half! Bofando with flair and skill, jump kicks, spinning kicks, head kicks, flips with Stahl being brutally strong in the clinch with devastating knees. After a convincing unanimous points win Bofando has already been approached about further fights and movements within his career.

SABRINA SEDIN V KAREN DEWS

(Sweden) (Falcon Fight Academy GB)

With a coach load of supporters which filled nearly every VIP seat in the house Karen Dews put up another brilliant performance on her second professional fight. Sabrina Sedin was the smaller of the two ladies but she was not scared of coming forward. Round 3 is where Dews took a good lead as she followed all her attacks with good leg kicks and picked up extra and very valuable points. Sedin was always in front of Dews and did not stop to the final bell. The heavier girls do struggle to get fights but its nice to say that on this occasion two fit strong girls provided each other fair game! The result went to the last fighter out of the Blue corner on the evening, Karens Dews by the way of unanimous points.

Another successful promotion by WAKO Pro GB.

Demon Darmon!!!

Born n Bred WAKO fighter Mr Greg "Gregorio" "The Demon" Darmon will now contend for two titles very soon due to the behind the scenes work of the White Scorpion Management team www.whitescorpion.moonfruit.com

Darmon will firstly contend the IKF -75kg Professional British F/C title against Gordon Childs in March and then the WFKKO -75kg European F/C title in April against an International opponent to be named very shortly.

After defending his WAKO pro British title successfully in December 2009 Darmon was more than keen to have a banging start to 2010. With future plans already being talked about it is clear to see that Greg has now settled down to serious training and means to make his mark this year! With a new training programme and a fire in his sole he now knows he is ready!

A fantastic opponent in John Lloyd another fantastic fighter!

Greg has also and rightfully earned a place on the WAKO Pro Dream team who will face Sweden in September here in the UK, another show which will create interest as he buddies up with some of the countries best!!!

Congratulations go out to Wez Fagan who has proven beyond doubt that he is ready for the biggest challenge of his life!
His prayers have been answered! Janson-Piers, his new manager and National coach promised him this big opportunity after lifting the prestigious WFKKO World title fight a few months ago. With the strength of this recent win the challenge was sent to the World president of WAKO to fight one of his very own.

WAKO Pro GB Press Release, Shows & the DREAM TEAM

Cris Janson-Piers, the President of WAKO Pro GB has just announced some of the main developments for 2010 and he can be rightfully proud of the progression that has been made already this year including some top fight matches on shows throughout the UK. Although WAKO Pro does as it says on the can……..that is, deals with professional fighters, Cris is adamant in involving Amateurs on shows and galas, realising that it is these very people who may or do eventually move on to fight on the professional circuit.

WAKO Pro has worked hard over the last few years to work alongside as many people as possible and that is now showing with fighters representing so many different groups who are now contending for WAKO Pro or Amateur titles either in this country or abroad.

WAKO Pro Fighters have met some of the top competition in the World over the last few years, fighting out in such as Norway, France, Spain, Sardinia, Oman, Italy, Holland to name a few and then WAKO pro GB have also reciprocated by bringing in fighters from as far away as New Zealand and many European fighters, whilst the Amateurs have travelled extensively with at least 4 trips abroad a year. In 2010 the Amateurs are fighting in Azerbaijan, Serbia, Beijing, Greece and with a pending invitation to South Africa.

So with a busy International agenda the next thing was to make sure WAKO Pro built on their reputation for top quality shows within the UK. It has got to be said that alongside all the other quality shows in 2010 there is one which is firmly fixed on the lips of everyone at the WAKO Pro HQ in Sheffield and one which is assured to create a great following by the many loyal fans of each individual also.

WAKO Sweden have agreed to field a team of their top fighters and with a reputation of being one of the World leaders in Ringsports the GB team selections were not approached lightly. Cris knew this would need a combination of fighters who had proven track records and who would be seen as highly ranked within the GB kickboxing fraternity. After entering into talks with some of the best coaches in the country a team started to form and as each member was added excitement continued to rise. Sweden specified they wanted some amateurs and professionals within both Full Contact and K1 rules and have actively sought fighters from different clubs from their country to do battle.

This fantastic event will be a prepaid ticket only show and featured in Yorkshire on 11th September 2010. It will be held at a very prestigious venue and will be well publicised. There will be magazine interviews and video show reels nearer the date. So let’s have a look at the team already being Dubbed as the “Dream Team”

More UK Fighters to fight Internationally

WAKO Pro GB still presses on to be the leader in Professional International competition and show promotion. Along side this WAKO travel 4 times a year to places all around the globe with its Amateur fighters as an official Great Britain Team.
Just recently it has sent professional fighters out to Sardinia, France, Spain, Italy etc and it has brought fighters into the UK from as far away as New Zealand, Latvia and again the likes of France and now Sweden.

A two part agreement has been struck with Sweden in 2010 and they will bring over "B" and "C" class fighters with the odd "A" Class fighter in March and then return in September to face an "All Star" team of GB's best "A" class fighters. The last event will be a real flagship event and all involved in it will be tested very hard.

Later in the year some of the GB K1 Rules fighters are set to test their metal by entering the super high level shows witnessed in Holland.

WAKO Pro GB and WAKO GB have released a hit list! It features some of the champions and also fighters who are ready to challenge for titles.
The list features Amateur and Professionals in all the ringsport disciplines WAKO recognise.

It was released and within minutes it raised 2 challenges and now another one has just come in.
This will fall in nicely with all the hard work and forward planning CJP has been doing over the past few years.

Cris stated " I was pleased with 2009 but I already had it planned for 2010 to be WAKO's big year in the ring! I am pleased to see it is some of the amateur women who seem to be making a move also.

WAKO GB are looking for self motivated fighters both Amateur and Pro for their open competition format to be considered for part of the Great Britain squad. This includes Juniors aged 16+ in all ring sports from Full Contact to Low Kick and K1 Rules.

Regular trials and training camps will be held next year. All team members will receive a points system which will go towards their final selection which will also include bonuses for placing at WAKO competitions throughout the year including the WAKO British in February of each year.

Theres only one way to become part of the WAKO GB Ringsports team and thats through proving your worth!

Although many fighters missed out on the opportunity of attending the World Games supported by the IOC, Sport Accord and GAISF in Beijing in 2010, this is only the first of many and next time hopefully all the categories will be contended which will give eveyone of you the chance to compete in all expenses paid competition of the highest level. The only way to be selected to fight in these championships is to be selected through the World Governing Body for Kickboxing....WAKO.

A special weekend has been put aside for some of the avid ladies of WAKO. 6 of the top female WAKO fighters met at Falcon Fight Academy at Sheffield for some top sparring and coaching. They have their next championships out in Italy at the end of the month.

Also in attendance were a small group of guys who wanted the extra training as they have up and coming fights.

We welcome anyone to come forward with any fighter they feel has been missed out of these rankings or been incorrectly placed and if the information is correct the changes will be made as soon as humanly possible. It is a hard and continuing task as others well know! The Amateur rankings will also appear shortly due to great demand!!!! Please note only fighters who fight on recognised WAKO sanctioned shows will be considered for ranking within the World Governing Body.

Here at WAKO Pro GB we have decided to display the Full Contact rankings all the way through to World level. We will endeavour shortly to also display the same in all our styles, being

WAKO K1 Rules and Low Kick. For now these can be seen at www.wakoweb.com and then going onto the WAKO Pro World site.

WAKO GB MMA…..Everything seems to be going strong now with WAKO’s long awaited Amateur MMA scene. WAKO Executives have already seen the first Instructors courses and examinations for officials take place and very successfully we may add. The first event featuring WAKO MMA will be featured soon and will be highly publicised.

Jordan Waring (Falcon Fight Academy) and Ben Fahey (Chikara Lincoln) ….. will contend for the Amateur K1 English -60kg title at the “Battle on the Park” Genesis show under WAKO Rules on the 6^th December. Both lads are British Full contact champions and have always trained in the K1 rules system also, so this should make for a very interesting fight!

May 2010 ….. Will see an 8 person Pro man or woman WAKO K1 Rules tournament held at a very prestigious venue. WAKO are inviting all K1 Rules fighters from any organisation to put their names down. Selection of the weight category will be purely and simply by the first category to be filled with suitably experienced fighters. The standards will be high and WAKO are looking to establish the “Best in Britain”.

WAKO Pro Full Contact Title….. Wez Fagan has been accepted by WAKO Pro World HQ to fight for a WAKO Pro World title next year after his fantastic debut under new management where he beat top French fighter and Champion Michael Duthu by stoppage in October of this year.

WAKO Pro K1 Rules International Title….. Kerry-Louise will be fighting in the UK next year against an unnamed opponent at this moment for an International WAKO Pro K1 Rules title. This follows her outstanding performance after winning a World Silver against the Austrian Champion in Austria last month in her very first outing in K1 Rules.

WAKO British Championships…..The yearly WAKO British which is always well attended and looked forward to will be featured at the Harvey Hadden Sports Centre in Nottingham on the 20 and 21^st of February 2010. Please go to www.wakogb.co.uk and download the entry form and poster. It’s on the download page of the site. Please do not forget that FULL CONTACT fighters must pre-enter and pre-pay for this event and there are NO exceptions.

The last qualifiers….. for the World Games in Beijing are to be contested at the WAKO World Championships in Italy in two weeks time. This has had a massive effect on entries to the WAKO Championships this year and has meant that most categories have had EVEN more entrants in them than usual. Some organisations mention World Champions when there has been just 2 or 3 competitors in the majority of categories? The standards of the World Governing body are so high and being only one competitor per country certainly demonstrates the fact that the person representing their country has been selected from the cream of the crop. WAKO also only allow competitors to enter 1 category per championships also as this gives everyone a fair chance of selection and these cannot be changed once registered.

WAKO Squad training ….. WAKO squad training for all ringsports will start straight away in 2010. Due to the nature of ringsports WAKO do not just use the results of the WAKO British to select fighters for the GB squad although fighters do earn extra points for the selection system by winning at the British. Each time a fighter attends trials they receive a report and points applied to their record. This record is also strengthened if people fight within the WAKO system throughout the year. These fighters will also be placed on the WAKO rankings system which is kept at HQ.

WAKO Blackbelt gradings ….. Well done to all the students who recently passed their WAKO Blackbelt Kickboxing Gradings, watch fighters magazine for a full report.

WAKO Courses Ref Judges ….. Please note that any ringsports referees and Judges who would like to obtain full WAKO certification should attend the Course and Examination for their chosen disciplines. These courses will re-start in 2010 and will be posted at www.wakogb.co.uk and www.wakoprogb.co.uk Anyone wishing to take part in the officials courses for WAKO MMA should contact John Higo directly at wakogbmma@hotmail.co.uk Congratulations to Kerry-Louise who has just returned from International “A” class duties again.

Aaron “The Anvil” Robinson ….. makes a crashing return to the ring with a great win and looks destined to be scheduled for a WAKO European title at least. The very well known name of Jez Hall is now behind Aaron and for anyone who can remember Lincoln Drill hall in the days and the likes of Lee “The Butcher Swaby” and Trevor “TNT” Tacey etc, get ready!

WAKO Ringsports official courses for Coaching and Cornermen ….. Master Cris Janson-Piers the Head of all WAKO Ringsports for Great Britain has developed a training manual over the last few years which he administers as a course to any coach or cornermen who are starting out or who simply want to just have a better insight to the WAKO system. However as it is very complex and informative it has been attended from many people from different groups and Cris welcomes people on an open format.

WAKO PRO Shows and Sanctioning ….. WAKO Pro welcomes any promoter to contact them regarding the sanctioning of shows or holding a title fight on their show. Next year they already have many shows lined up so please contact them urgently if you would like any consideration. People who have proposed dates this year for next year should now confirm their bookings.

WAKO Pro GB Elite Fighter ….. This year WAKO will select a fighter to receive the WAKO Pro GB Elite Fighter award. This will be a very prestigious award and will be decided by the committee and also any supporting votes off, you the public which are received at the WAKO offices. These will then be added to the equation.

WAKO GB and WAKO Pro Rankings ….. All the WAKO Ringsports rankings are available from WAKO HQ. These were on the web sites but took up a lot of space and took so long to update on line. They will shortly feature on this news blog and will re-appear every time they are updated. People will be able to simply select copy and paste the rankings into their own documents and save them at their leisure.

Leif Taggart ….. Has continued his successful fight career in remaining unbeaten in 2009 after changing over to the K1 Rules format. Already his management are looking at possible fights for 2010 and also training camps abroad. Now 18, Leif has to decide along with the team, when it will be right for him to switch over to WAKO Pro completely where he will compete for good money. His training is now very very hard and involves International travel and even more costs, so he is actively looking for some sort of serious sponsorship. He has the proven record and soon may even become a household name if he sees out his dreams! Genesis ….. The Genesis series of events will be hosting another WAKO show on the 6^th December and has already booked two more fight nights for 2010. Genesis concentrates on the First time fighters and fighters with fewer than 5 fights experience and also finishes its events with a title fight so the fighters can see what they can aspire to or what opportunities are available to them. The 6^th December show will see the first fighter from the Canary Islands from the Blood Sweat and Tears Gym come over to fight in an Superheavyweight K1 battle….. Coach Vito Grant remains confident!

Gallant Effort but its not to be!

A fantastic venue!

Paul Douglas of Amir Subasics, Storm gym came out strong in round 1 of his European WAKO Pro title
fight with Spaniard Aitor Eqguiza in Pampalona, he found it a little difficult to find range, but when he did get in, he troubled Aitor.
In round 2 it looked like the Spaniard had adjusted his game plan and although a tough Douglas still came forward it was Aitor who found the spot with a overhand right and dropped our guy Paul to the canvas from where he did not recover.
Gallant effort but it still left Aitor sucessful in his 4th Defence of his WAKO Pro European title.

The show and pre fight organisation left no detail unturned and were a credit to Jose, the host and his team, well done!

After a massive Tapas meal was laid on for all and it was superb.

WAKO Spain absolutely "A" class! Thank you WAKO Pro GB.

Paul Douglas is to attempt to topple the Spanish K1 champion on his 4th defence of the WAKO European K1 title.

Steve Salter, regular WAKO GB fighter has added another win to his fight record by stopping Chris Oxley of Newark Martial Arts in the 2nd round of an amateur bout on Saturday 17th October at Kelham Hall whilst featuring on the undercard of dean Sugdens fantastic World Championship Kickboxing show.

"Steve is getting better fight by fight and last night was no exception" said Cris Janson-Piers his coach and manager. "Steve boxed well, used his distance, had good range and overcome Chris in the second round forcing the corner to throw the towel in.

Wez Fagan has been accepted to challenge for a WAKO Pro World title after taking a fantastic win over his French opponent last weekend.

Fagan stopped his opponent in the 5^th of a scheduled 12 round World title fight sanctioned under the WFKKO, who are renowned for qualifying fighters of such a high calibre.

Fagan forced 2 counts before a thundering hand combination dropped the Frenchman to his knees. He was deemed unable to continue and Wez’s fans brought the house down, he had a 100+ spectators down in Doncaster Yorkshire, they had also bought every VIP seat in the house and they were proud to witness this great feat.

Wez’s Dad was invited into the ring for the belt ceremony and he was clearly overcome with joy!

“A true champion of champions”

The fight will be proposed for early next year, giving Fagan even more time to prepare in what has already been a successful restructure.

WAKO K1 Rules a great “Hit”

Amir Subasic didn’t take long to accept a once in a lifetime all expenses paid and pursed chance for one of his fighters. Paul Douglas of Storm Gym will fight the reigning Spanish WAKO K1 Rules Champion in his own back yard!

Aitor Eguzkiza is going to be feeling a little confident in front of his home crowd however, Amir Subasic says they are only going over to Bilbao so they can bring back the silverware and Douglas is training very hard for this.

Since the WAKO K1 Rules came to Britain and has been very successful it is nice to see so many more K1 Rules clubs developing and it just adds to the mix and level of the British competitor.

Taggart beats the Russian in Croatia

Leif Taggart has proven he is a force to be reckoned with again as he took Gold medal in his second WAKO K1 rules International competition last month. He won Silver at the Worlds last year and now Gold at the Europeans, he is determined to return next year to become WAKO World Champion.

Watch out for Leif Taggart as he will be appearing on International K1 Rules cards throughout 2010.

Just this week he beat 5 times Savate champion Idriss Galais in a low kick bout, these rules were opted for to make the fight as fair as possible for both fighters as the Savate style does not involve knees or clinching.

Aaron Robinsons recent win on his return to the ring in an International Pro Prestige fight could be the key factor he needed to secure him another European title shot, this time under WAKO Pro. Coach, Jez Hall of 7K’s Chikara will be discussing what weight Aaron will be contending at next and then plans can be made. A strong fight off Aaron stamped his authority on the scene!

Quiet Girl Kerry-Louise ready to rock

Months and months of training have been put in for Kerry-Louise’s challenge out in Austria next week at the WAKO Adult World K1 Rules Championships. Training at the Falcon Fight Academy in Sheffield under Master Cris Janson-Piers 6 days a week and other than that training at camps outside the country,

including high altitude training at Club La Santa Lanzarote or back in the UK at Bad Company under private tuition from Mr Richard Smith and SDF Sheffield under Paul Powers and the team. Kerry-Louise is also hoping the helping hand from Mr Daeng recently and Chanoy just this last week will also prove productive. Kerry-Louise said “I know it’s going to be hard, it’s not just winning it’s trying to stay away from possible injury in the preliminary rounds and keeping focus over the 4 days of competing!”
